Thu, 09 Oct 2008 19:37:30 +0200 Most students are at least a few weeks into this new school year, and many have already discovered the benefits of using the iPhone and iPod touch as a study tool. Aside from the apps that serve as basic study aids, there are other apps out there that can help a student stay organized, or
Wed, 08 Oct 2008 20:06:12 +0200 Those who can't wait to get their hands on BlackBerry's latest call it a marvel and its keyboard functionality, which makes you press down on the screen to register a "touch", is something worth drooling over.
OK, I guess I can concede that the Storm is really neat and the touchscreen idea is fantastic. But I still don't see how the BlackBerry Storm will be able to compete on any level with the iPhone 3G.
Tue, 07 Oct 2008 22:26:23 +0200 Pandora unleashes a torrent of music that outsmarts iTunes Genius in the form of a never-ending playlist that magically knows exactly what you want to hear. It’s an outright travesty we haven’t mentioned Pandora here before, but better late than never. And we’re especially delighted that we don’t have to write Pandora’s eulogy since Congress
Tue, 07 Oct 2008 01:53:21 +0200 Man, we really get ticked when some company touts a version of their site that’s “iPhone friendly” only to find out that it’s been so stripped down of content and features so it will work for the lowest common denominator of mobile phones, the WAP device. Usually it’s that little “m” that replaces the “www”
Mon, 06 Oct 2008 23:58:58 +0200 In a little over a year, Apple's iPhone has grown to become the second best-selling mobile handset in the United States, according to NPD.
A report issued by the market research firm Monday claims the touch-screen handset now trails only Motorola's RAZR V3 on the US sales charts. It also cited a surge in sales immediately following the introduction of the iPhone 3G that has helped the device garner a 17 percent share of the overall US smartphone mar
Mon, 06 Oct 2008 22:44:53 +0200 You know the stock market’s bad when Apple has a flurry of good iPhone news and its stock is still down over 8 percent in trading. That’s the situation today.
The good news is that Apple has apparently already sold over 10 million iPhones this year. It has stated numerous times that 10 million was the goal for all of 2008, and it appears to have hit that goal a full three months early...
Fri, 03 Oct 2008 22:21:33 +0200 With the launch of the Apple’s App Store, the once all-powerful web app has lost a lot of its value on the iPhone and iPod touch. There are still plenty of good apps out — such as the Twitter client Hahlo, FriendFeed and several of the Google web apps — but they’re confined to running within the Safari web browser. That makes them a lot less sexy than native apps. But thanks to a recent update to the iPhone software, web apps can get their sexy back with a few small code tweaks.
Fri, 03 Oct 2008 05:07:11 +0200 When Apple revealed that iPhone applications would not be allowed to run in the background during its March iPhone SDK event, developers, as they are wont to do, grumbled about the slight. So in June 2008 at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple promised to give developers a workaround that involved using Apple's own servers to notify iPhone users running one application when fresh data was available for another application not in use.
Fri, 03 Oct 2008 00:31:27 +0200 Let’s face it, grocery shopping is a chore for most of us. Shopping lists ease the pain a bit, but they still take time to write for each visit, especially if you want add specific details about each item. Now imagine how much more efficient your shopping would be if your list had “Jif Peanut
Thu, 02 Oct 2008 19:35:14 +0200 Over the weekend, Apple updated the requirements for customers to review applications. In order to write a scathing one-star critique of an application, you’re required to have purchased it—or, in the case of a free application, downloaded it. You’ll be prompted to log into your iTunes account before writing a review, and if it’s not one that you’ve downloaded, you’ll be greeted with that pleasant little reminder above.
Thu, 02 Oct 2008 19:29:46 +0200 It’s not surprising that it’s always the younger political candidates who utilize technology to lend their campaigns more power through economies of scale. New technologies like social networking and the iPhone are ripe for those candidates seeking to let their constituents to do the campaigning for them. Earlier this year, younger presidential candidates like John
Thu, 02 Oct 2008 00:29:06 +0200 Video social networking is going mobile. Unfortunately, Apple has yet to allow third party app developers to access the iPhone’s video architecture to create video capture and streaming apps. We do expect this to change at some point, and hopefully soon, but without commitment from Apple it remains uncertain when video apps will appear in
Wed, 01 Oct 2008 20:19:40 +0200 From Apple's iPhone Developer Connection:
We have decided to drop the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for released iPhone software.
We put the NDA in place because the iPhone OS includes many Apple inventions and innovations that we would like to protect, so that others don’t steal our work. It has happened before. While we have filed for hundreds of patents on iPhone technology, the NDA added yet another level of protection. We put it in place as one more way to help protect the iPhone from being ripped off by others.
However, the NDA has created too much of a burden on developers, authors and others interested in helping further the iPhone’s success, so we are dropping it for released software. Developers will receive a new agreement without an NDA covering released software within a week or so. Please note that unreleased software and features will remain under NDA until they are released.
Thanks to everyone who provided us constructive feedback on this matter.
Wed, 01 Oct 2008 04:57:48 +0200 The U.S. Senate on Tuesday afternoon passed the Webcaster Settlement Act, the legislation that lays the groundwork for Web radio stations to negotiate reduced royalty rates for the songs they stream over the Web. The bill passed through the House of Representatives on Saturday and is now headed to the White House, where President Bush is expected to sign it.
Wed, 01 Oct 2008 04:55:26 +0200 Apple has made an unlocked version of the iPhone 3G available in Hong Kong, letting consumers pick whichever carrier they so choose.
This is in sharp contrast to Apple's policy for almost everywhere else on the planet. Illegally unlocked iPhones are rampant worldwide, but that obviously isn't something that Apple has sanctioned.
Wed, 01 Oct 2008 00:56:05 +0200 You may have been following recent App Store developments in which Apple has removed apps that violate some unknown App Store rule. The first app to get the axe because of its content was a digital comic book called Murderdrome. Apple said this was a “quality control” issue because this particular comic book did not

Tue, 30 Sep 2008 19:23:22 +0200 Facebook on Tuesday released version 2.0 of its popular iPhone app. This release contains a lot of the functionality that is in the full version of Facebook, making the iPhone version much more attractive
Mon, 29 Sep 2008 21:38:27 +0200 Apple made a few changes to the App Store over the weekend that should cheer up developers, even if the underlying issues remain unaddressed.
